Shumei’s Programs

Shumei America’s activities center around three main aspects: Jyorei, Natural Agriculture, and Art & Beauty. We believe that incorporating these into our daily lives is an important way to foster health, happiness, and harmony for all. We welcome all to participate in our programs.

Jyorei

“Jyorei” is a healing practice that means “purification of the spirit.” Shumei’s founder, Meishusama, developed Jyorei as a treatment for physical ailments. Jyorei is a shared act involving two people, one who gives and one who receives. The person receiving Jyorei may experience a sensation of tranquility and well-being. The giver benefits by gaining a larger capacity for compassion and love for others.

Shumei’s approach to growing food, called Natural Agriculture, concurs with its concern for the Earth. The practice of Natural Agriculture is guided entirely by a profound reverence for the intrinsic wisdom of Nature.

Shumei Natural Agriculture is more than a system of food production, it is a way of life. We see the natural world as an organic, living, and spiritual being where the elements of nature work best in harmony when they are left in their pure and natural state. Our role as a global community is to learn how the natural world works and adapt our lifestyle to fit with it.

Art & Beauty

Art and beauty have the power to nourish and refine the soul. Beauty fosters a deeper appreciation of life and all creation. Art fosters harmony both within the individual and among communities. We encourage our members and friends to make art an integral part of their lives.
