K Greene

K Greene has been involved in seed work for the past 20 years. After starting the first seed library in a public library in the country, Greene and his partner Doug Muller grew the project into the Hudson Valley Seed Company. Today, the seed company is a seed source committed to ethically growing seeds and celebrating the stories of seeds through art. Greene has continued to deepen his dedication to seed and is now the Seed Growing Program Manager at the Hudson Valley Farm Hub. This includes Indigenous seed rematriation and seed sovereignty work with the Mohawk community in Akwesasne and the Lenape Center. Greene continues to provide trainings to new seed libraries, teach seed saving skills, and enjoys meeting new plants every season.
Greene has given presentations and keynotes for a diversity of groups and organizations including Shumei’s headquarters, SII in Crestone, and centers in Japan, the US, and Hong Kong, as well as the Organic Seed Growers Conference, the National Heirloom Expo, the Philadelphia Flower Show, the Tri-Science Society, the New York Botanical Gardens, and more.

The Art of Seed gallery exhibit, which showcases selections from the 250+ artworks Greene has commissioned for the Hudson Valley Seed Company’s seed packs, has been mounted at over 100 venues all over the country, as well as in Japan and Hong Kong. In September, the Hudson Valley Seed Company will be opening its own art gallery on the seed farm. A documentary was made about the seed rematriation partnership with the Akwesasne Seed Hub, and the seed company has been featured in many publications and shows including the New York Times, Washington Post, Martha Stewart, NPR, Vogue, A Way to Garden, and Civil Eats.
