DESCRIPTION:Chiho Harazaki was born and raised in the countryside of Japan.
  Spending childhood summers at the remote mountain studio of her uncle\, a
  renowned rock sculptor\, Harazaki's interest in art was stimulated at an 
 early age.\nHarazaki's first experimentations with tape as a medium for ar
 tistic work began in college in Los Angeles\, where she produced her first
  "tape art." Harazaki's work carries the spirit of traditional Japanese ar
 t forms like woodcut and paper-cutting\, while using the unconventional me
 dium of tape to create something entirely new.\nThough many of the materia
 ls and objects she uses are quite ordinary\, Harazaki skillfully transform
 s them into works of beauty and depth. Her exploration of tape art include
 s work in drawing\, painting\, and installation\, in small and large scale
 \, and in two and three dimensions. Perceiving life as a first-generation 
 immigrant\, Harazaki explores her own identity through her art\, synthesiz
 ing elements of Eastern and Western\, traditional and modern culture.\nHar
 azaki's artwork has been exhibited individually and collectively\, includi
 ng at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery\, Art Share L.A\, and the Japa
 nese Friendship Garden in San Diego. She has also been commissioned to cre
 ate large-scale installations for the Japanese American Cultural &amp\; Co
 mmunity Center in Los Angeles\, the City of Santa Clarita\, as well as for
  commercial clients like John Lobb.
