Join members and friends of Shumei for this playful introductory Po Mo Brush Painting workshop, when we will be studying and painting Summer Bamboo & Sparrow with artist Leigha Nicole, who is a member of theShumei International Center in Crestone, Colorado, USA.
BAMBOO is one of the 4 foundational subjects studied in traditional Po Mo Brush Painting called ‘The Four Gentlemen’ and a perfect subject for first-time painters. The array of brush strokes in all of the Four Gentlemen (Spring Grass Orchid, Summer Bamboo, Fall Chrysanthemum and Winter Plum)combined are said to have all the brush techniques needed in this “Spontaneous” style of Brush Painting.
In this beginning online workshop, we will start with the basics of brush holding and loading, stroke technique, ink application on rice paper and how to create a simple and elegant Bamboo & Sparrow composition using just ink and vermillion watercolor.
This will be a step-by-step experience, specifically designed for brand new painters and will be taught at a gentle pace with plenty of time to practice the various strokes before starting our final compositions.
Students will be responsible for procuring their own supplies (Brush, paper, ink, etc.). A confirmation email will be sent upon registration with supply links that can be used for online shopping through Oriental Art Supply www.orientalartsupply.com to have all you need for the workshop. Please, register by 6/4 to ensure there is enough time for OAS to ship your materials to you. If you have any questions, kindly contact: pennsylvania@shumei.us.
We hope you will join us for this afternoon of artistic expression and fun creativity!
