Chiho Harazaki was born and raised in the countryside of Japan. Spending childhood summers at the remote mountain studio of her uncle, a renowned rock sculptor, Harazaki’s interest in art was stimulated at an early age.

Harazaki’s first experimentations with tape as a medium for artistic work began in college in Los Angeles, where she produced her first “tape art.” Harazaki’s work carries the spirit of traditional Japanese art forms like woodcut and paper-cutting, while using the unconventional medium of tape to create something entirely new.

Though many of the materials and objects she uses are quite ordinary, Harazaki skillfully transforms them into works of beauty and depth. Her exploration of tape art includes work in drawing, painting, and installation, in small and large scale, and in two and three dimensions. Perceiving life as a first-generation immigrant, Harazaki explores her own identity through her art, synthesizing elements of Eastern and Western, traditional and modern culture.

Harazaki’s artwork has been exhibited individually and collectively, including at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Art Share L.A, and the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Diego. She has also been commissioned to create large-scale installations for the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center in Los Angeles, the City of Santa Clarita, as well as for commercial clients like John Lobb.
